The 5 Best Books Turned Into Movies
When a book that you love comes to life on the big screen, it's one of the best feelings in the world. It's a chance not only to watch your favorite characters come to life, but to watch it with others that are just as in love with the books and people in the book as you are... and by in love I mean obsessed. Although I think a little obsession is healthy, especially when it comes to fictional characters. Here are 5 of my absolute favorite book to screen movies that I absolutely adore. Most of them are Fantasy/YA but there are one or two movies in the mix that I just had to throw in there. Enjoy!
#5. Twilight By Stephanie Meyer
This one has a love/ hate relationship for a lot of people (even the actors in the movies don't really care for it, some downright hated the Twilight series *cough* Rob *cough*). Personally though, I loved these movies and I went to the movies to see every single one of them. A vampire falling in love with a human is swoon worthy enough, but when you throw in a love triangle with a buff werewolf? Yes please!
#4. 50 Shades of Grey by E. L. James
I know some people have reservations about this book and movie, but honestly, if you look at it at face value, it's a great book about two people that grow and help each other to see that they can love and be loved in return. A girl named Anastasia meets a handsome billionaire named Christian by chance when her roommate needs her to interview him for the student paper at her university. He's intrigued by her innocence and beauty that he decides to invite her into a dark part of his life. He is a Dom and wants nothing more than for Ana to become his submissive. However, things don't go the way each of them plan and they become more to each other than they originally thought or cared to think about. Christian wants only a Dom/ Sub relationship while Ana thinks that there could be more to him, when she can tell that he cares for her, he's just terrified of what that could mean... he has a dark past that Ana can't even imagine.
#3. Pride and Prejudice By Jane Austen
Yes, I know. This book is nothing like the other ones on this list... for one it's a classic (and there's no supernatural aspect to it). When Elizabeth meets Mr. Darcy, sparks don't fly like you would expect. In fact, it seems like they can't stand each other, they might just be too different, from completely separate worlds. But, when they actually start to slowly get to know each other, they see that they're not actually as different as they originally thought. The book had a lot more detail, and some of the events took place a little differently, but overall, the movie was spectacular! I tend to watch it at least once a week when I just need to watch a good romance.
#2. The Mortal Instruments By Cassandra Claire
I know that a lot of people think that the movie was really bad and they're happy that instead of continuing to make the movies they decided to make "Shadowhunters the TV Series" but personally, I'm sooo sad that it wasn't finished. In my opinion, the movie came closer with how the characters looked in my head from the books' descriptions than the TV series actors. If you haven't heard about this series, let me give you the quickest summary possible. Clary meets Jace who is a Shadowhunters (they kill demons). Sparks fly from the beginning, but it's difficult when Clary's best friend Simon, is also in love with her and a small love triangle begins to form. Clary's mom is taken by her father she didn't even know was still alive, and they have to do whatever they can to get her back. Clary soon finds out that she's also a Shadowhunter, that her life will never be the same again, and that she has a brother who is still alive as well... who might be closer to her than she thinks. Read the books, watch the movie, and THEN watch the series if you want, in that order... TRUST ME. (Although I watched the movie then read the books which is why I think I love the movie so much. After watching the movie I had to know what happens next which is when I discovered that it was a book series.)
#1. Harry Potter By J. K. Rowling
I could not do a book to movie list without mentioning my favorite series of all time. The characters in the book literally come to life in the movies. The actors were fantastic and I will never get tired of watching or reading these stories. Harry Potter was taken in by his aunt and uncle when he was just a baby but he never felt like he fit in. On his 12th birthday, he gets an acceptance letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, although his aunt and uncle refuse to let him go. He finally gets to go when Hagrid, the caretaker of Hogwarts goes to retrieve him, which is where his adventure truly begins "Your a Wizard, Harry". This story is just amazing from beginning to end and I feel like I actually grew up with the characters.
